Electromagnetic valve train / air pulse valve
Hofmann-gas valve "HGV"
HGV closed position | HGV opened position |
HGVs on a cylinder head of a four-cylinder inline-engine
Design of the HGV
The HGV....
- is a fast switching butterfly valve, controlled electromagnetic in an opened respectively closed position
- works as a harmonic oscillator with a spring as mechanical energy storage, which enables a low energy requirement of about 20-40 Watt
- reaches switching times of about 2,5-4 milliseconds
- in closed position is thermodynamical gas proof
- is attached as an add-on component directly on the inlet port of the cylinder head
Mode of operation
The HGV....
- is controlled by the engine ECU and enables user-defined opening respectively closing points
- allows on the fresh air inlet port a full variable valve timing in spite of a fixed valve timing of the engine camshaft
- within the full variable valve timing permits throttle free load control, speed independent resonance charging of the intake runner, cylinder shut off and temperatur increase of the fresh air for cold start
